Hi, I have a problem with my car. I recently replaced the MAF sensor because it was supposedly bad but the problem persists. When the car is cold everything runs fine and stays normal, but once it warms up, the RPM needle starts hopping and it doesn't idle. Also, when I try to rev the engine when it is doing this, the car chokes. Please help. This might help ... when I unplug the MAF sensor it idles fine and no problems (New MAF). I have a 1997 eclipse spyder gs (2.4L).

P0505 is showing in my book as an IAC Fault. So maybe you need to check out your Idle Air Controler.

Thank You for your reply. Would that be the same as the IAC valve? Or are they 2 diff things?

They are the same. Check all your wiring to it before you replace it. PM me if you need to know how to test it. The IAC is about $50 at autozone. Pick up a manual, it makes these little checks on sensors and stuff so much easier. They only cost about $14 at autozone or advance.

Your IAC motor is on your throttle body. It is on the front by the throttle spring.

Check
Make sure your coolant temp sensor is below 68 deg F. (Chill it with ice if necessary.
Listen to the IAC motor while an assistant turns on the car. You should hear a clicking sound. If not check the wiring to the motor. If the harness is good proceed with the following

Disconnect the IAC wiring harness. Looking at the plug on the IAC motor with the locking tab up your terminals should be 1-6 with 1 being at the top left and six at the bottom right. Connect one lead of an ohmmeter to terminal 2. Connect the other lead to terminal 1 and then to 3. The reading should be between 28 and 33 ohms. If not replace the IAC motor. If reading is good proceed to the next step.

Connect lead to terminal 5 and the other to 4 and then 6. You should get the same reading 28-33 ohms. If not replace it.

Hope that makes sense

ok guys ... i know ive been away for a while but finally got most of the codes cleared.
I just have one more code (P1500) which is Manf Cntrl Veh. Spd. Idle Speed Control Auxiliary Inputs.
And the RPM needle still hops and gradually climbs on its own. If anyone could help i would greatly appreciate it. thnx guys.
Oh and by the way just finished changing the IAC Valve.

i found out why the rpm would creep up and hop ... the BLISS screw was open to much ... just closed it to keep a nice idle at around 700 RPM ....
But I still have that one Code P1500 ... I was searching around and came across someone that said it might be the Alternator. What do you guys think?

Its either an open circuit in your alternator fr terminal circuit or your ECU is bad.

What do you mean open Circuit?

Also

I have detected that while the car is on the voltage changes from 14.1 to 12.3 randomly every now and then.

it means a circuit that is not complete. could be disconnected, blown fuse, bad wiring, etc...

Yeah, someone tried to compensate for the bad IAC by bumping the idle
