You have to remove the upper intake manifold to gain acess to the 3 rear plugs.

I took a hard look at doing this myself. In the Endeavor service manual, there are 26 steps for outlined for removing the Intake Manifold Plenum (the stuff covering the back 3 plugs). Maybe 2/3 of the steps are do-able for a novice mechanic, however some of the parts you have to disconnect (like the EGR) are difficult to access without the assistance of a rack. I would recommend leaving this one for the pros.

I've attached a diagram that depicts the removal process.

Where did you get an Endeavor service manual? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) I'd love to get my hands on one seeing that both the dealership and Mitsubishi screwed me out of my warranty ...

u dont need a lift to get at any of the things you have to remove you just need relllly long arms (IMG:style_emoticons/default/grin.gif)

and if u do decide to do it yourself it isnt horribly diffuclt just time consuming...

also when u remove the egr pipe from the back of the manifold dont lose the liitle gasket thtas there and dont forget to put it back in (IMG:style_emoticons/default/grin.gif)

and also make sure u reinstall all your vacuum lines

and if you google manuals sometimes u can find people have posted online

also on that picture you dont have too remove all the support brackets and mounting hardware.. just remove enuff too get the plenum off (IMG:style_emoticons/default/thumbsup.gif)

I am trying to remove the intake plenum so I can change the 3 rear plugs. It is a 2004 Endeavor. I removed all of the bolts in the front, disconnected the electrical connector on top of the plenum, lifted the electrical mounting panel from the side, and removed one bolt from the back of the plenum. I started removing the EGR bolts (12 mm) and lost my wrench in the engine somewhere. I needed the vehicle running so I put it back together. My question is: How close was I to get this thing apart enough to get the plugs out? What did I have left to remove? Thanks for any help you can provide. I want to succeed with my next attempt.
I managed to find a good photo of the engine and I have marked up what I know I need to remove. Please let me know what else needs to come off. I will repost the completed picture once I accomplish the task.

I am happy to say that I was able to complete the plenum removal and spark plug replacement. As I state in the instructions, if you can get that first bolt out then you can do this job. My PDF writer stuck in a couple of blank pages so be sure to scroll down to see the 2 photos.

I'm going to be doing the plugs on my Endeavor shortly before the summer. You do not need to remove as much as it looks in the diagram. The manifold, a few brackets for wires, and a couple of vacuum lines. It takes about half an hour to 45 minutes to complete. Just remember to torque the manifold bolts down properly, otherwise you could end up with leaks, or worst case, it cracks.
