i was lucky on the winter issue i bought the DE Cvt then slapped a pair of 18 inch ASA AR9's on with some low pro's n now i just kept the stock 16s for the winter tires....but im sure you could go to mitsubishi and get them to install a pair of 16s on if you bought them....looks more decent with the caps then plain black steel...

Only the GTS comes in a CVT transmission. All other models are either stick or full automatic. QUOTE(AConns @ Sep 24 2008, 09:02 PM) tirerack.com has the package with 6.5's will that make a diff you think??
Half an inch is still half an inch. If the gap is too close to the calipers, then the inside of the rim will rub/grind against the caliper and damage your rim.

Positive. The paddle shifters are just a nice perk of the GTS. The CVT has no shift shock, so you can't tell if the car is shifting or not. It feels like one giant variable gear (hence the CVT name). If you have Drive, 2, and L... then you have an automatic. If you have D with +/-, then you have the CVT. EDIT: Noticed you said SE... the US versions are different. Only the highest end model, GTS, has the CVT transmission. The SE might have the CVT. QUOTE(Nicegy525 @ Oct 15 2008, 01:16 PM) would 205/55/16 make a difference? or 205/65/16? A 55mm sidewall is thinner than a 65mm sidewall (obviously). The bigger the sidewall, the quieter the ride will be. Plus you have extra cushion for your rims so that protects them from potholes too. Helps in the snow too.

I was more concerned about throwing off the speedo/odo with a larger or smaller rolling diameter.

QUOTE(EngRWW33 @ Oct 16 2008, 09:59 AM) I thought that the offset is what kept the wheel away from the caliper, in which case the 1/2 inch would mean thinner tire not closer to the caliper... PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong
16x7 7 is the offset 205/55/16 55 is the profile series. Two separate things

GTS has a larger diameter brake disk....i don't know if you can put 16" steelies.....inform yourself first.... at worst, get 17", and get lower profile accordingly if you have the right overall diameter (wheel + rubber) then it shouldn't affect your speedo reading try this if you don't know what i'm talking about http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

The dealership was going to sell me 16X6.5 steel wheels, except they wanted $99 per rim... Ive been to like 5 tire shops and they all say 6.5 will fit. 42mm is the stock offset. 5X114.3 is the lugnut pattern those are also important numbers to match.

You have to take into account load handling on a thinner profile tire for a smaller rim. if you're downsizing, the air pressure and the tire might not be able to handle the weight of the car but if you're up sizing, then you're ok.

QUOTE(YeOldeLancer @ Oct 21 2008, 02:42 PM) So will a 16X7 45mm offset fit on an 09 GTS?
Yes, as long as the lug nut pattern is 5X114.3. I would say the minimums for tire ratings would be 87 and Q. But your best off getting as close to the same diametre as the stock tire, which is 205/60/16 or 215/55/16.
