2003 Outlander - Tranny Sports Mode Is Not Working, but AUTO tranny is working FINE Options

Guys,

I have a 2003 Outlander (~70k miles/112 km). The car looks great, everything is fine. The 'only thing' is that the transmission in SPORTS MODE doesn't work anymore. It is hardly used and I don't know why is not working...nothing is shown on the driver panel. The automatic transmission works perfectly. I wonder if the problem is electronic-related, otherwise, the whole transmission (automatic/semi-automatic-SPORTs MODE) would be dead...that's my guess...

So, I need to repair...and I need to find a mechanics for that (at the moment, here, I don't know anyone that I can trust). Well, have anyone experienced such problem before, would guess what would be the cause and what should be done (and estimate the costs). Just to have an idea when I see the technician...

Had the same problem on my GF outlander. She never uses the manual mode so we don't know how long it had been inop. The dealer repaired it but it was not covered by the powertrain warranty as it was a wire that was damaged/cut. They resoldered and it is still working 6 months later. If the solded was not going to hold, they would have had to replace the module. Don't remember exactly where the wire was disconnected but I can check. Might be a week or so... You may be able to repair that yourself if it's the same.

This is an easy fix. Remove the console cover " about 6 philip screws trust head " 3 of which are under armrest. Pull the passenger seat as far back as it will go(Good time to clean under seat). The wire he is talking about is attached directly on the switches that are toggled by the shift stick when you push up-down or side to side. If the positive wire broke you will not be able to shift up or down and display telling you which gear you are in will not come on, also drive LED will not light. The four other wires are : up switch: down switch; display on or "D"drive LED on. These wires are not restrained properly from factory and do break off. All you need to do is strip the wire 1/8 of an inch and resolder to switch. Then to do a good job tie rap the wires to the hole right under the swiches. I think this hole was there for this purpose but was overlooked in assembly. If you have small shrinkable tubing this will also help future breaks.
