I feel your pain!
I spent countless hours on an ’82 L200 with a 4G63 motor and exactly the same problem. I also had one that I was wrecking for parts that was running fine up until the head cracked. I put a new filter on, replaced every rubber fuel line. I blew compressed air through all the chassis fuel lines and replaced the fuel pump. I even changed the fuel tanks over, just so I could say it had an entirely different fuel system on it. Still no fuel got to the carby.
In the end, I bought a low pressure electric fuel pump and fitted it to the chassis rail, right between the fuel tank and the fuel filter. Starts every time now!
I have been told by people that the fuel pumps are know to give trouble and either the push rod or the lobe on the cam wears or the arm on the pump bends – either way, I wasted hours when the electric pump was easy and simple to hook up. I made a blocking plate and removed the old pump but it will not hurt to leave it in place.
You would be advised to buy a low oil pressure cut off switch as well, which will cut power to the fuel pump if the engine stalls or cuts out in a crash. Not a good idea to have fuel flowing out of the carby!
Good luck.
