In the city I don't let the RPM's go over 3,000, and I let off the gas to let the car upshift, and on the highway I cruise at 70 so the car is only at about 2800 RPM.

Also you'd be surprised, but I've seen a little better mileage too since I installed my short ram intake 3 days ago.

I get about 32mpg mixed city and highway out of my sable just by being even with the throttle and smooth with the foot. same with the dsm's. I don't use the brake unless I have to, I don't accelerate up hill, I go the speed limit (except on the track (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) ), and I draft big trucks when possible. (the last one I don't recommend, and by draft I don't mean 20 inches from their bumper either, I mean I "follow" trucks about 40-50 yards away.)

I draft trucks by about 50-60 feet. My rule of thumb is that as long as I can see their side mirror on the left, I'm good because they know I'm there.

Yes, but you shouldn't make it a habit. Switching into neutral while in motion can be bad for your tranny. If you do the, just make sure your going really slow. I only ever do it if I ma forced to drive an auto going down a hill with snow/ice on the ground.

Oh, I just try to avoid pressing the gas completely when it rains here, except to get up to 45mph (on interstate), my tires are so wide that I hydroplane like a friggin hovercraft.

Yeah they grip like hell in the snow, but hydroplaning=DEATH

Um... what tires do you have? Because I TRIED to hydroplane in my 1991 Ford Aerostar before... and I was doing about 80... and I hit a puddle about 2 inches... (I know... stupidest thing in the world...) But I didn't. Probably a good thing...

If you are hydroplaning at 45, you need better tires...

I have Kelly Charger tires, they're very low on tread but I rotate them occasionally.

Rotating a tire isn't a substitute for replacing them. If they're bald, they're bald. No matter where you put them on your car.
Put it in neutral when you want to save gas, park when you want to slow down, and reverse when you want to stop.

BTW I talked to my bookie and got 20 bux on January 18th 2009........
