I have a 1996 2.0 DOHC Turbo Petrol RVR Automatic --- the manual says to use 10w-30 motor oil but I can't readily find it here in the UK except Halfords which says it's for a motorcycle. Can I use this or should I used something else, maybe 5w-30 or 10w-40?

10w40 is fine and if you can use a semi-synthenic type. Numerous brands available but make sure you also change your oil filter and check/replace the air filter.

Jim,

thanks for the help!

I have another question: do you know what equivalent muffler/silencer can be fitted?

Id readilly go with 5-30w , depending the lileage , but 5-30 is a good bet because of the season and depending on the ,mileage.

No sorry don't really have any suggestions about a muffler for you. Best to pop into one of the generic muffler shops and let them inspect the whole system and give you some price options.

On the oil note I would go with something thinner and definitly semi-synthetic if not synthetic mainly because you are running a turbo. Turbo bearing a re very susseptible to damage so a high grade clean oil should be used. 5w40 or 50 is best.

Sounds good. I have a diffrent turbo type on my VR4 with external oil cooler (scroll turbo) so its wut i use. Too high viscosity sumtimes will peak too much line in pressure at the bearing inlet and leave residue over the years and cause bearing and seal oil leakage into the turbine section.
