This is just a notice in case anybody wants to tinker around..

My friend had ordered an OBD2 scanner for his 01 Dakota from obdpros.com, and since he's up north for the next few days, I decided to play around with it on the Lancer to see what it's capable of.

I was rather surprised at the outcome. It's a bluetooth/serial capable reader, and they provide you with all the necessary hardware to get up and running with it -- including the BT dongle, serial cable, and some PC software provided from the site on cd. They're also very friendly to deal with, and helpful regarding shipping -- especially across the border.

Within about 2 minutes, I had the thing plugged into the OBD2 port and the included software allowed me to monitor real-time all the fancy goodies I'm normally only accustomed to seeing with a 1g dsm and mmcd. It's pretty much got it all, and a pretty good response time to boot. I plan on plugging it into my Palm m515 running OBD Gauge.

Obviously, I have no real useful need for a lot of the parameters as I'm not going to be tuning with it, but its pretty cool to watch how these new fangled cars work behind the scenes.

I believe this is the one he bought

(disclaimer: no I don't work for them. I'm kinda bored at work, and thought maybe somebody might find this stuff useful -- especially since it's been tried and confirmed working with my Lancer)
