I am a little bit confused. I went to a shop yesterday to check an oil leak located just above the turbo. And just by merely, looking at it, the mechanic told me that my engine already needs to be overhauled. I am seeking for your opinion and advice.

Background:

Engine: 4D56 TD Intercooler

1. My pajero perfectly starts in just on click not matter what is the weather condition.
2. My pajero ideals fine.
3. I've never seen white or black smoke on the tail pipes on normal diving. Black smoke starts to appear only when it is aggressively hits 4000rpm and above.
4. It runs perfect.

Is it logical to have it overhauled?

It is hard to advise given the info you provided. I also doubt if the mechanic could also correctly advise unless he did some additional diagnositc work. At the very least a oil sample test and leak down test can confirm the general engine condition. There are also many other tests and inspections that you could do but it is really up to a owner if they want to invest serious money into an overhaul.

Thanks for the reply,

Can you give me what other tests can be done so that I could also advise the mechanic.
