Hey all. i recently purchased a used 1.5 (160,000 miles) and tranny with accesories and was wanting to have it for a backup motor for when mine (210,000 miles) blows. I have been working on it in my basement, i have it stripped down to just the block with cylinder head. the tranny is missing an ear, i think it will still handle load though. I am goin to replace timing belt and water pump, and what else should i replace and prep?

Also, is there any way i can check its condition without checking internal clearances? it turns nicely, i havent checked compression yet.

the easiest thing to check is how clean is the oil, is it clean under the valve cover? replace the seals if they are leaking/weeping; cam, front crank, rear main
