a guess

the thermo switch for the radiator
may be screwed into the bottom of the radiator

thermostat to fit smallest dome part to the outside housing
the spring part of the thermostat into the manifold

if fitting a new fan
check which way the fins rotate to cool

I know that the radiator fan switches off an on according to temperature. The reason you don't see it come on is because the heat is only high enough when you're driving. That is, unless your temperature gage is reading hot, in which case it probably isn't coming on due to a bad sensor.

I think when you unscrew one of those sensors, you'll find that the radiator water will start pouring out (it needs contact with the water to get a temperature reading). You might want to take the cap off and drain the lower radiator hose first to control this. And have a rag nearby to plug it. Also, wait till the engine cools down so the coolant isn't hot.

Those sensors are also best purchased new because when you get ones from wreckers, nothing seems to change. I noticed this when I did it on a 1990 TP Magna.

Look for cracks in the old sensors (I think there's two) because that indicates that it's probably reading the temp wrongly.
