i have a diamante (93 wagon) and one of the ball joint went bad. i got just the ball joint (because i am not paying $400 for a freakin' arm i don't need) and i have the ball joint tool to pop it out but... the ball joint is in pieces. it's been over a decade (actually 14 years when i was still a teen) since i replaced it and i can't remember what i did.

i have the actual ball joint. ok. i have a boot, yes. i have the lock nut, ok. i have the grease that goes in the joint.. fine. then i have this collar ring and 2 different notches on the ball joint. which notch does it go on? the first one? if so, then i don't think it'll sit right when pressed into the suspension. if it goes on the bottom... um, it doesn't look big enough and if so, then i guess i would have to get a tool to pry the collar open and snap it in the notch.

help me out here. if pics are needed, let me know, i'll snap some. thanks!!

Most to all of these models as i have seen are a composite unit with the lower control arm , and yud have to replace the entire lower control arm as it comes with the ball joint.

I was just curious if you were able to get the ball joint replaced on your D without replacing the entire arm. I have a 95 D and need to replace one of the ball joints as well. I've found a ball joint that is supposed to work online and was curious if you had any problems with the fit I should be aware of.

haven't done it yet. been too busy and really haven't driven it at all.

but... but from what i've researched (on 3si since it's pretty much the same car as the non-turbo), the ball joints are all the same from the D to some Hyundais! So get the ball joint and have a field day. i'm about to bring it to a local mechanic to get it done as i don't have the time to do it now. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

seems a mitsubishi factory requirement is to buy the arm and balljoint

the ball joint is pressed into the arm

you will need a wheelalignment after fitting the new arm

if you try to DIY you may risk bending or damage to the arm while fitting the balljoint
the balljoint may not be fitted as tight as factory spec if the old arm is used

There are numerous sources online that sell ball joints for Diamantes, so I am guessing that someone out there has replaced them before. Anyone? I replaced them on my Durango some years ago. It was the same story that you had to replace the entire arm, but it was rather easy and I ended up with better quality Moog greasable ball joints.

on 3si, there's many documented procedures on how to replace the ball joint since the D is the same setup as the 3000GT. apparently the ball joint isn't exclusive to Mitsu but also Hyundai and other makes/models.

The 96 up Diamante is not like the 3000GT/GTO. In a pinned section i have up how to service this . Its in the pinned area "Intake and Induction"

Is the rear bushing on the front control arm the same also? It looks like it's got some sort of viscous fluid in it for damping.
Mine is leaking, but again, the $500 for the wagon control arm is robbery. The Stealth has nearly the same
part and it's only about $120. I'd like to just buy a Stealth control arm and remove the bushing part and put it on my wagon's arm.

I have a feeling this is the cause of the shuddering during braking it get, I replace the front rotors, thinking they were warped,
made no difference.
