Yes , hopefully the car is under warranty but it can be either or . It can be TCM or Transmission related. The TCM not powering the transmission controls causes a direct issue with the transmission staying in 3rd all the time , not directly a "failsafe" thing. Transmission TQ converter issues and other valve body issue technically cause shifting pressure issues , as in slipping , hard/adrupt shifting etc , also usually would rest at most key ignition cycles temporarily. More TCM and TCM relay issues cause a direct loss of shifting etc. Nun the less if its under warranty , as it should be get it checked at the local dealership
