So a couple of days ago I finally end up getting pulled over for my headlights, im running 8000k for my lowbeams. Strangely enough they were doing it during the day and were only pulling people over for headlights not speed (as i saw them indicating to people to slow down rather than pulling them over).

But anyways since im not in the mood to get pulled over again im considering to go down the k range but, as i looked at the MVA and the SAE I see no indication of what k your headlights can go up to. The officer pulled me over indicating that my headlights were "blue" resulting in my ticket. But in the regulations i see no mention of color. The only thing is i see is that cars must have only OEM lighting, which is quite silly because not all OEM lightning is the same and this does not include european cars. Various cars have different kinds of lighting systems so the only claim they should me making against me is that not because it is blue, it is because it is not stock? However, I do see that no stock car is actually running blue headlights unless its a european make. So my question really is what exactly is the allowable range, I know most companies for their HIDs run a stock 4300. So would it be safe to say to go with 4300? Plus Im assuming in order to change my 8000k to 4300k it is not the bulbs but Id have to purchase new ballasts? Basically I should be buying a new kit all together?

Alright, each state is different, but as I understand it, HIDs that show up blue are only illegal if they provide blue light on a white piece of paper up close. If you bought the $35 eBay HIDs, then they are actually just bulbs that have blue tint. If you are running real HIDs, then you should be able to legit fight the ticket.

But I am basing that off of NJ law.

yeah I was under the impression that it had the beam of light that was imitted had to be white. All he did was pull me over and said did you know your headlights are blue? and I was like no I believe that they are white. He then continues by telling me to get of the car and take a look at them and he says what color are they? And im like they look white to me. Then he continues with no they are blue. Then I ask him well which ones are you more referring to my highbeams or my lows? He then responds with both. When my high beams were never on however the bulbs were plainly visible but project white (cuz they were halogens painted blue) Though in the housing they reflect blue cuz its like a mirror right. He then takes a photo of my headlights and tellsme to return to my carand issues the ticket.

I dont think it was a blinding issue, the lancer headlights in general point downward quite well so. But as far as i know as of law, its all the same as long as the law refers to the MVA & SAE regulations?

The only thing they can ding me on is putting unauthorized non oem lightning in my car since they are aftermarket HIDs, but not because they look blue based off the color you see when looking at the headlights.

So should i just pay the ticket off or should I try to court it?
