I have just done this job at home, so for anyone thinking of doing it yourself here is what I found.
There is no drainplug and Mitsubishi don't specify a gasket and told me to use gasket cement so I decided to suck the stuff out. This I did with a cheap suction gun from Screwfix for £7.
The owners manual says the transmission holds 8 litres so I purchaced 7 litres of Amsoil synthetic ATF fluid (Diamond 111 spec) from Opie oils UK for £105 posted thinking I would never get the whole 8 litres out. No matter how I tried I could not get more than 5 litres out and I could not see any more left when I shone a torch in, not even by jacking it up or selecting different gears.
So if you do the job yourself there is only any need to buy the 5litre size which is £65. Still a huge saving over the £200+ which the Mitsubish main stealer wanted.

the rest of the fluid is in the torque converter
which is why the dealer uses a flush machine that gets all the fluid out and and a flush costs 189 bucks here in USA

altho u can do a home flush if u take the cooler lines off the radiator and have one go into a drain bucket (empty) for the old fluid and then have the new fluid in another bucket with the other line and run the car...the pump in the tranny will pump out the old and suck in the new (IMG:style_emoticons/default/grin.gif)

Just a quick note for any DIY ATF fluid changers out there, there are a few more makes of fluid that are Diamond 111 spec now.
I could only find Amsoil when I did mine but recently Fuchs and Motul have ones out in the UK. Gulf and Mobil have ones in the pipeline.
The UK suppliers are Opioils.

So long as it says Mitsubishi Dia Queen SP111 equivalent on the label you can use it. I used Amsoil and it's very smooth.
There are a handfull of makers who make it now.

jeez, people make this crap so much harder than it needs to be.
first, there IS a drain plug. it is in fact the only serviceable part of the transaxle. you pull it, drain it, refill it. DONE! every 30k. DONE. nothing else to do.

and you should use ONLY mitsu SP3. i dont give a damn what "amsoil" says about how fantastic their magic oil is. Use ONLY mitsu fluid. it works perfectly, every time.

I still cannot find a drain plug on my U.K 05 Outlander. There may well be one but it must be in disguise. The local dealers use a flushing machine to re-fill.
Here in the U.K all the local Mitsubishi dealers do not use Dia Queen111 and would not even order it for me. In their workshops they all use the Castrol multi-vehicle fluid which may or may not be right but why would Castrol or any oil manufactor not be capable of making a good oil to this spec. I chose to think it's not right and bought the Amsoil. Wheather this turns out good or bad only time will tell. I always keep my vehicles but most people change regulary so will not notice their's deteriorate.
I don't have much faith in my local dealer as they told me my hunting tickover was not a tappet issue. When I took the lid off there were hardly any clearances at all and none on two tappets. Cue a flashlube kit to go with the LPG conversion.
Even our local auto box specialist was comfused about me asking asking for a oil change with Dia-Queen 111 and say they use synthetic oil in everything apart from CVT boxes.
I did eventually find a Mitsubish dealer in Scotland by chance on ebay who said he would order me some Dia -Queen for £125 for 25 litres but I have already used Amsoil.
If you see the Mitsubish forums you will find many U.K owners worried about not being able to buy Dia Queen 111 for their cars.
If the abouve posts are correct the whole of the U.K is going to have failed auto boxes.
If my Auto box fails you all will be the first to know and the first I ask for help changing it (IMG:style_emoticons/default/thumbsup.gif)
