Alright here we go. I'm getting a Lancer soon, as a replacement for the 07 Cobalt I currently own. I've spent a bunch of money on my car, and it has a sound system in it, of course, and some rims (which, being the dumb 4 bolt pattern won't fit a lancer). I'll be getting an ES Sport model so I can have the ground effects and spoiler with the 4b11 engine, as well as the bluetooth. My questions are only these two. I'm looking for pictures of the "Front Black Out Kit" but I can't find any. I really like the way Wicked White looks on these Lancers, but with the black effects it looks much better. So if anyone has any pics could you maybe direct me to them? Also, right now I have 4 Infinity speakers in my Cobalt (two 6x9's and two 6.5"s), making for a total of 4 tweeters, 2 super tweeters, and of course, 4 mids, all powered by a 468w amp. Also there are 2 JBL 10" subs powered by a 380w Alpine amp. Needless to say, in a car that small, the bass HITS hard when its up, and I have a really balanced system. I was looking at the RF optional system, but I don't really need a sunroof, and a nav system and 6 CD changer isn't necessary either, especially not with an auxiliary input. But it seems a little underpowered as well. I'm not sure how hard its gonna hit with one amp powering 9 speakers all together, so opinions on this would be appreciated. While it may well be till next summer that I can actually get my Lancer, I'm doing research on all the cars I'm considering. Any and all help is appreciated! :-)

if you want to do a custom sound system or plan on upgrading what you get then DO NOT GET THE RF SYSTEM!!! it just makes things really complicated when they dont need to be. if your going custom then do it all... dont depend on mitsubishi for a good starting point. they integrate the system to the point where modifying it becomes wayy too much work. Dont know much about the blackout kit... didnt do it to mine so cant help you there. also if your looking for something to engine mod get the manual not the cvt. more options and bettter for tracks. not to mention the cvt's low ability to handle power.

oh come one guys, more than one person has to have an opinion on how hard the Rockford Fosgate sub hits. I know I have my subs already, but nine speakers are better than 5, and if it will hit just as hard, well i don't think the value can be beat. and someone has to have blacked out they're front bumper.

Do a search on the forum for the blacked out bumper. There are lots of people on here with them. The stock rf system sounds decent but its not gonna rattle your trunk. if you plan on installing a aftermarket system dont get the sun and sound package. Like trini said its too intergrated into the car and it will make things more complicated.

I think the RF system sounds great. Can you get more bass out of an aftermarket, well sure, but you can say that about any factory stereo. RF did a really nice job with this system, the bass hits plenty hard for me. I had people on the street ask me what I have because going the down the street with it turned up and the punch and bass on 5 or 6 it's pretty loud. The best part is the integrated, built in sub in the trunk. Doesn't add extra unneeded weight and doesn't take away the trunk space. I will probably never upgrade the RF system to something else because it sounds real nice and I don't want to add more weight and lose trunk space.

If you want the built in aux input's then you have to get the RF system, the base system doesn't come with them.

Forget the NAV, get the sun and sound, the moon roof is nice and the package is actually a good price for what you get. Moon roof, RF stereo w/ satellite, and the fast key system (you have to have the fast key system, it's awesome)

And here's a tip for you: To get louder sound out of the RF system, use an mp3 player(ipod) or create mp3 cd's and turn the decibels up on the mp3 file when creating them.

well I went and looked at the ES Sport, one that didn't have the sun and sound, and it had the aux input. no video in obviously, but the two rca jacks were there. aux in is pretty standard nowadays, even my cobalt has that. now i have another question that actually caught me by surprise last night.... my cobalt has 4 speakers as well, but there's two in the doors and two 6x9s in the rear shelf. now i'm given to understand that there aren't any 6x9s in the lancer? the ES will just have 4 6.5" speakers in the doors? if this is true, where are the 8 speakers in the RF system?

Oh ok, I stand corrected on the aux jacks.

Correct, there are no 6x9's.

I believe the 9 speakers are (counting the sub): 4 woofers in the doors, 2 tweeters on the front door speakers (I think these are just two way speakers, but mitsu counts them separate), 2 tweeters in the doors located where the side view mirrors are, and the 10" sub.

There are 7 speakers. (4) 6.5" in the doors. (2) tweaters in the front two doors and they count the 10" sub as a speaker. I have the RF system and have added an additional 12" RF Sub and (8) additinoal speakers

huh. that's good to know. that means i don't have to wrestle with getting the 6x9s out of the shelf in the Balt. Yay :-) just pick up 2 more Infinity 6022i 6.5" speakers, grab the two I already have, grab my amps and subs, and swap it on over. Now I'm glad I kept the stock speakers for the Cobalt.

From what I've read here, the black out kit Mitsubishi offers is very over priced and it's cheaper to do it yourself.

Technically there are only 6 speakers, but mitsu counts the 2 ways in the front doors as two speakers and counts the sub as a speaker(like you said) to get a total of 9. That's why it says 9 on mitsu website.

Correct! Just either spray it or use vinyl
