I Have a 1991 Montero US 4 door and recently i started having problems with my radio, power locks, clock, dome lights and door ajar light not working, they work sometimes, but then they go off, it's very anoying and kind of scary because I've put about $2400 in this montero and It will suck if it catches fire!

so if anybody knows of anything that might cause this kind of problem i'd really apreciate it!

Thanks!!

Doubt if it will catch fire. Most likely a common ground wire between these devices. Need to start digging and check all connections. Not much fun but shouldn't cost much to repair.

There's a common ground around the fireshield on the inside of the car. A leaking windshield, usually not noticeable, can let just a little water drip down the back side of your dash and corrode this ground. If this is the problem, it will stick out like a sore thumb when you see it.

If that's not it, look around disturbed areas, that is: areas where work was recently done. Most often people forget to tighten something or overlook a connection that is just barely making contact by dangling and grounding on something.

A tip: I'm sure ONE of the front door open sensors work, causing the door ajar lights to light up every time this door opens. The area around the offending door (the intermittent one) is where you want to start looking for this corroded ground. That is, if that is indeed the problem.

Posted on Aug 9 but the lack of an update saying "Hey I found the problem!" insinuates that the discrepancy may still exist.
