Abnormal noise at the front end could be:

1) a possible worn or damaged outboard CV joint.
2) a possible lack of Lubrication at joints.
3) Damaged strut mounting
4) Worn control arm bushings or tie-rod ends
5) Loose: Stabilizer bar, wheel nuts, and/or suspension bolts

Or, I could be completely wrong and it's none of those. Just based on the description you gave that's the best I can think of right now.

My guess is the spring seats.

If you hear a knocking sound going over a bumpy road that would be your bushings.

If your shocks were messed up the car would lean into turns excessively and bump like a boat on water.

But yeah, from my experiences, it was my bushings and my spring seats. (1982 Volvo 240DL) Yeah not a mits but rack and pinion, struts and springs same setup basically.

Sounds like bushings to me. And there is more than one bushing. Look for a master bushing set. Might as well get some poly-urethane bushings while you are at it since they are just as cheap if not cheaper than OEM and much better quality. Check extremepsi.com I think they have a master kit.

If the boot is ripped then DEF replace that CV axel... with a rip in the boot, all the grease is gone and the joint is not getting lubed, which mean that shit is busted.

There is a recall bullitin for squeeky lower ball joints, if your car is within the production date it's no charge to have both lower control arms replaced. It usually makes the squeek more when turning the steering wheel but can make it over bumps also.

SR–01–007
LOWER BALL JOINT
DATE: March, 2001
— SAFETY RECALL CAMPAIGN MODEL: See below

This bulletin supercedes SR–99–002, issued June, 1999, for additional inspection
and repair procedures and expanded model years.
PURPOSE
Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America, Inc. (MMSA) is voluntarily recalling affected vehicles for possible
premature wear to the lower lateral arm ball joint assembly as a result of moisture intrusion. MMSA
identified that the lower lateral arm ball joint may have other areas of leakage beyond the cut or torn
boot that was the subject of safety recall bulletin SR–99–002. Such moisture intrusion could result in
excessive ball joint clearances that could eventually result in ball joint separation.
This bulletin contains inspection procedures that must be performed in order to determine whether the
lower lateral arm assembly requires replacement.
Replace the lower lateral arm assembly if:
– the boot is damaged
– evidence of grease leakage is found, or
– the ball joint free play is excessive
If inspection does not reveal any boot damage, grease leakage, or excessive ball joint free play,
sealant must be applied to the ball joint bottom surface on both sides of the vehicle. This bulletin
contains sealant application instructions.
AFFECTED VEHICLES
1994–1998 Galant, 1995–1999 Eclipse, and 1996–1999 Eclipse Spyder models

that must be whats happening with the left side because it is starting to squeak also and the boot is ripped. is there any exception to being able to get the recall done or is it just any eclipse within the year and model that has a ripped boot.

As long as it hasn't been done, they have to do it. They usually will give you a hard time about it tho and normally, you have to fight with them a bit for them to do it.

the only way they might not do it is if the vehicle has a salvage title (voids most warranty)

call and give them your VIN, they will tell you over the phone if they can do it or not.

so i got the strut bushings in but that is not what was making the sueaking. My cousin finally took a look at it using a mechanics stethascope and concluded it is the all 4 lower control arm ball joints. so this just turned into a $400 fix. aint that a kick in the nuts? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/crying.gif) but on the bright side the rattling noise went away and it just rained hard core and i was doing some driving and it lubed it up so no squeaking for now.

unfortunately my car is salvaged and my cousin told me that they cant do recall work if it is salvaged so i'm screwed on that one. thats the first thing to be fixed.

thanx for everything.
