My 1990 mirage will start and run fine when cold but after I drive it somewhere and let it sit for a few minutes it will not start, i have checked for spark at the coil wire and cap and there is a good arc to the cap so i know it is getting fire I also smell alot of fuel when it wont start. If I let it sit for 30 min to 1 hr it will start up right up again and runs fine. I initially ran codes with a analog volt meter and got a code 25 MAF sensor and a 45 but couldnt find that code , replaced the MAF and cleared the code but still having the same starting when hot problem, Could a bad fuel pump cause the problem even though I smell heavy fuel odors when it wont start? My next step is a fuel regulator that is located under the real seat, i have read this can cause this problem there is a test you can do so i may try that before i spend the 50 dollars, Does any one have any ideas ?
Thanks

as you describe, i bet when you remove the spark plug, it will be fully accumulated full by the carbon. As if you changed the MAF sensor, do test drive for a while to see if the code aapear again. If the same code appear again, change the sensor again. If its not ... then we move to other diagnosis.

First conduct a basic tuning, you have to adjust the IDLE SPEED properly. Which is, you warm up the engine, short the diagnosis connector so that the conputer will not adjust the timing by itself, and then adjust the IDLE SPEED SCREW so that you get the 750-800 RPM.

Note, you have to swich off the A/C completely while conducting a basic tuning and to make the engine easier to start, clean the spark plug from carbon using decarbonizer spray or just use petrol and brush it with metal brush.

Hope this will help.
