Hi, I replaced the fuel pump. Had to drain all the gas into a 5 gallon bucket sprayed out with water then let dry after. I wasn't planning on putting the gas back in my tank but my friends dad said its not gonna hurt anything. After it was all drained into the bucket I seen a couple things that were settling at the bottom.. Maybe a little from the gas tank and a little from the window blowing stuff in. Let it settle and go down to the bottom of the bucket then siphon it back into a gas can but didn't suck up any of that shit that was on the bottom left a like a quarter of a gallon so I didn't suck that stuff up.

My main question is I noticed afterwards there was paint on the side of the bucket and the gas was sitting in there for about 2 hours do you think I got paint in my gas? Gas looked really clean but im still worrying about if some paint got in the gas. Would I have seen the paint floating or setting at the bottom of the bucket?

Thanks for your help!

shit gets into your gas tank over time, if you can clean it out great, but your fuel filter tight there on the pump will keep you safe. just get all the shit out of the bucket before you put it back in.

I would personally just get new gas to be safe. Also, you 3g guys have to drain your fuel tank to change your pump? That sucks. lol

I already put the gas in... that was the problem that's why I was asking... The gas looked really clean. Like i said i left like a quarter gallon so I didn't suck up all of the crap on the bottom. My cars only a 1G and I had to drain the tank too... The fuel pump was attached to the drain screw... I know thats kinda weird only supposed to be in turbo cars but it was in mine...

I really think the as was clean and hopefully no paint was in it... But I don't think the paint even got in it because its still on the side and I was scraping it and it wasn't coming off.

It's always preferable to have clean as(s) .. and I don't recommend scraping or getting paint in or near it ... LOL .... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/grin.gif)

No I scrapped the paint on the side after the gas was already put back in the car. I didn't scrap the paint while the fuel was in there wouldn't have been very smart...

No you do not have to empty your tank to change the pump in a 3g. It can be brought right out of the top of the fuel tank from under the rear seats.

That's how it is on AWD DSMs as well. On the FWD DSMs (including the 1.8) you have to remove the sending unit form the side off the tank near the top.
The gay part about the FWD removal is in order to get a wrench up in there to remove the lower feed line from the sending unit, you have to drop one side of the lateral bar...

Yeah you have to drop the lateral bar but that was no big deal. An extra maybe 3 mins of work to take it off.... The pain in the ass was the rusted bolts from the hard fuel line going to the soft fuel line. Just cut the middle and put 1 softline from both of the hard lines clamped twice to make sure no leakage and now works like a charm.

Now THAT is innovation! haha I am replacing the entire lower feed line with a stainless steel fuel line, so when I get the time I am just going to cut the soft line, remove the sending unit and with it off of the car, I should be able to get it seperated... I need to do it eventually anyway since I need to install my wally 255 fuel pump and rewire it as well.. lol
