i got a 2008 lancer gts and i was wonderin if anyone has cut their springs? i know its not good for the car but i would like to see any pics of someone who has done this.

i have an extra set of springs and struts in the garage that i got from the junk yard just in case my shocks go out when i cut them. i tried lookin all over for a topic on this and haven't found anything.

so if you could give me the positives and negatives or pics of ur ride that will be great. thanks.

You should never cut springs. your car would drive very bad. u would bounce like a bunny rabbit going down the road. just buy some lowering springs
I have RRM G.R.I.P springs installed on my lancer. they offer a 1.5 inch drop Im very happy with everything about them.

heres some pics of before and after if they help.

Before

Hi! i have a Q regarding lowering your springs..

will it affect your warranty from Mitsu?

will it help your driving performance or more dangerous in winter?

Like with any part of the manufacturers warranty, if they can prove that the aftermarket suspension system caused some sort of damage that would have been covered if you had OEM parts, then your warranty would not cover that damage. As for performance, I do believe that you get better handling if you have it lowered in the summer, but I can't comment on winter performance..

Regards.

A friend of mine back in high school cut the spring on his 91' Chevy S10 as a cheap way to lower it. That thing handled horribly before and after the mod. So I don't think the handling would improve at all chopping the springs on any vehicle.

But I do think that cutting the springs would compromise the integrity of the suspension. I personally, would not trust the suspension on a vehicle if the springs were chopped.

Having a spare set of springs to put in if it doesn't work out is definately good. You may need them if you go through with it...

Good luck!

seems to me everyone is telling you its not even worth your time to cut the springs.

Damn, our GTS' looks so nice with the RRM springs. It's too bad i live in manitoba with alot of snow and huge pot holes, or i would drop my credit card in a second.

so whats the worst thing that can happen to you during winter when you lower you springs? (1.5-2 inches)

and how much is a reasonable price of a lowering spring? ive found one on craigslist 220CAN installation included T1R S-coil! my friend said its dubious and i shouldnt risk my warranty and performance during winter (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

I don't think it will hurt performance. Lowering your car improves handling, which should help in all driving conditions. The reason I'm still undecided of which to get, either Eibach Pro or Eibach Sportline or maybe the Works springs is because of the clearance I'll have at the front end and driving in deep snow or snow drifts. I think this is something you might want to consider. Right now, with my splitter I have 8 inches clearance in the front and 7 inches on the front side (in front of the tire). To get 8+ inches of snow in a storm here is common(heck anything under 12" we don't even consider bad), but it isn't the norm to drive in 8"+ snow, usually the snow plows clear the way decently, but it does happen, especially on some the the back country roads I drive on and snow drifts across the road can be 12"-24" easy. I'm worried that in the blizzard, deep snow condition where I have to drive to work or something that with low clearance it will make it hard to drive, especially with my splitter.
So I am definitely going to drop it, just haven't decided how much yet. If I went 1.7 or 2" on the front, that would give me about 6" clearance which concerns me seeing as the splitter could act like a shovel and build snow up in the front. I'm going to drive in the snow for a little bit and see how the splitter does, then decide.

As for price: anywhere from $180 - $270 is a normal price range for good lowering springs. The Eibach's I'm looking at are $208 and $227.
