I'm having problems starting my Colt Vista. It will crank and crank, I floor the accelerator, then let off like the manual says to, but that doesn't seem to help, takes nearly 5 minutes to start. I don't think my battery will hold out long like this. . but I occasionally hear a clicking sound from under the dash, and it will run then. when it does start, it runs good. Also, after its been running, if I take off the oil filler cap, there is lot of gas/smoke within the valve cover itself. Any help is greatly appeciated. I just got this vehicle a little while ago and don't know alot about them yet. Thanks. Trevor.

I'm not sure whether the colt VISTA is a carburettor fuel system or Multi-point injection system. But what i do know is that you COLD start system is to blame. IF your system is carburettor, then it caused by the FAST IDLE mechanism which is either jam or misadjust.

as for MPI, it would caused by ISC servo, misadjustment of Fast Idle speed screw, or the ISC motor (which is the bad news that you have to change the throttle body in order to solve the problem)

Hope this will help.
