Quick question for my son. Is it a dangerous to temporarily run a 16G turbo ona 90 TSi with a SMIC? I understand the air will not be as cool, but will it damage anything?

Naws it just won't flow as well and the air won't be as cold just as you don't run too high of boost and stay out of the floor with the gas it should be alright

Does he have the supporting mods to run the 16g?

To start off, he will have ARP studs, 3" exhaust, manual boost controller, 255 walbro, 550cc injectors. I suggested he set the boost manually low to keep it safe until he can get everything setup properly and the electronics to tune it right. Is there something else? This thing will not be running for a few weeks at least as he still needs a BOV and intake piping, the rest of the exhaust system and everything connected up.

I was going to give him my BOV and piping if I can find the stock 1G stuff before he purchases.

Then he should be fine.

Hehe. I bought his 92 TSi AWD from him when he threw the TB and punched a hole in a cylinder with a piece of valve. I replaced the motor and he has been drooling ever since. He was able to pick up a 90 TSi AWD for $1000 with a completely rebuilt head and motor (still has the assembly lube in the head). It just didn't come with a turbo, BOV or fuel injectors. He is 18 but is also a full-time mechanic at a shop here, so he has the know-how, but since I have performed more work on these than he has, he has been asking questions to be sure he doesn't mess things up.

I think he robbed the guy too, here is what a 1000 bucks buys:
1990 TSi AWD
Rebuilt motor and head
leather, no tears
White guages
MBC
Megan Racing 2.5-3" downpipe
lower springs/strut assemblies for a 2" drop all around
A set of 30 over Ross pistons (taking those to rebuld my original 6-bolt)

All it was missing was :
Rest of 3" exhaust
Turbo
BOV
Fuel Injectors
Front axles

Not a bad deal, I think. NOw, in a year when I install my new motor and clutch, he wants to go out to ORP and race the old man.
