I don't really know what it is but when I first got this Magna 3 weeks ago, I didn't really take that much notice of the Tachometer. As a learner driver at 50 years old, I had learnt a lot since having this magna. New CV Joints installed S/H Auto transmission installed & just recently had to put another Alternator in. It now purrss beautifully but have noticed one morning that the tachometer started to work. As soon as I began to give it a little more juice, all of a sudden the needle dropped and hadn't worked since.

Oh Dear, What can the matter be? I do have a workshop manual.

I'm no expert but I would say either the tach is defective or the signal it's receiving is bad. A shop manual and a volt meter should be able to tell you if it's the signal.

Can you tell me please where should I look to check the connections? I do have a friend who apparently is an auto electrician but I don't think he knows the problem. Would You suggest I go to an auto electrician to get this fixed or can I find this out myself by using a multimeter?

Thanks again for your reply.

I would remove the cluster and use the book to find out which wire is the tach signal. Use a multimeter to check the signal. If you have a signal then it's more than likely the tach is defective.
