I have a 2003 Mitsubishi Montero Ltd. The in-car readout of the outside temperature has gone to --- and will not display the temperature. Does anyone know where the the outside temperaturesensor is? Could it be this simple? Other factors - The display at the top of the center stack will no longer cycle to the graphic of where the in-cabin airflow is (when the dial is set to AUTO for temperature control) Is there any control box or electronics for this under the shift selector? My wife spilled coffee there once, other than that, I can't think of anything else that has happened. Any advice to point me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hi there

I have posted something regarding this sensor before, not sure when but you can do a search.

The temp. sensor is usually located inside the front left bumper. It's just a small length of wire running from the dash trough the engine compartment, across the front grille/radiator/aircon dryer sometimes, and down towards the inside of the bumper. Can be spotted from the wheel well if you looked carefully.

The sensor itself resembles a tiny black bulb, encased in a tiny open-ended capsule, so my guess is that it could'nt have been damaged unless you crashed the front end badly. Check the wiring instead and the connectors. The temp. console has 2-3 screws that can be opened for inspection/removal.

Just as Nur said, it's on the inside of the bumper:

Did you ever fix this problem? I started having the exact same issue on my '02 Ltd this weekend.

Yup, check your battery. Had this problem when my battery was not charging properly. Replaced my battery and got my outside temp back on.

I checked the resistance on my temp sensor, and it tested okay. Instead of buying a new battery, I unplugged my battery for several minutes, and that seemed to reset it. Works great!

a weak battery is the most common reason for this...

all you needed do was a "reset" of the display. had you done a search, you woulda found it talked about previously.

I had the same issue on our 02 Montero Ltd and thanks to the forum posts, I was able to resolve it by disconnecting and reconnecting the battery. The temp display and the a/c display now work normally. Thanks for your help.
