The Cat on the Shogun 3.00 Petrol has gone and needs to be replaced. It sounds as if there is a hole somewhere in the exhaust but I cant see one or "feel" one. I took it into a exhaust place to check it out and was told the cat had gone. The car is also drinking fuel for England! They wanted £300 + to replace the cat!!!!!! Im being quoted £108 plus vat for the part which seems reasonable. Is it easy to fit - it looks to be - but I know these "easy" jobs can be deceptive. Loads of lubricant and patience in know but can the Cat be taken off in isolation or does it reqire the removal of the whole exhaust?

Thanks for your help

Well seing as either a) nobody has ever done this before or (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cool.gif) nobody can be arsed to reply, let me tell you its easy.

There are four bolts, probably rusted up so give them a good douse in anti sieze/penetrating oil/ freeze spray.

THe two front ones are 17mm and you will need a long 17mm socket. The rear are two 16mm bolts and you can use a standard socket.

Once the bolts are undone the unit can be take off the car without the need to remove any other parts.

Fitting the new cat is very straightforward. Simply offer up ( dont forget the gasket for the rear joint) and bolt up.

Simples!!!

There can be a couple issues , if the catalytic converter is damaged , the HO2S sensor can be also. Making i burn lots of petrol. Run to rich . A internally partially clogged catalytic converter will cause this also, even one that has broken internally and the flow is higher than normal. Will cause the aft converter HO2S sensor to pic up higher temps and readings at lower speeds and make the injectors spray more fuel. First thing is to find which catalytic converter is likely faulty .

Check to see if there is a fault code , this may give sum insight to which may be an issue.
