Hey guys, thanks for the help so far, it is much appreciated! Now on to what I HOPE is to be my last concern for awhile!

My oil pressure guage fluctuates with the engine rev as most cars, but this guage seems to get pretty high when I'm taching 4k or more! So I have 2 qusetions:

1. At idle, my oil pressure guage reads low. It is about 1/4 of the way up. About between the bottom and the first marked lines. Is that a normal reading for our cars?

2. At rev, mostly after 3.5-4k, the pressure climbs up to like 3/4 of the way. It doesn't get all the way up, but it will stay at 3/4 untill I let off of the throttle. Is this normal as well?

Thanks for any help guys!

For one thing that stupid meter is pretty useless until you get a real meter that reads it. It can be a number of causes like for example: the health of your engine and the type of oil you are using.

Installing a aftermarket meter it not that hard.

will for my car when it starts up its about 80psi but once is worm up its about 40psi

Low oil pressure at idle is completely normal. That is just how these engines run.

the higher the rpms, the more oil is pushed through the system, so yes, higher oil pressure readings are normal.

Holy shoot I was spooked, I was under the impression that certain things were not right with my engine, because mine does EXACTLY that.

Especially when I change my oil weight for summer/winter (I live in alaska so 3 degrees F' in the morning make for A BITCH OF A START)

I like to use 0W-30 Mobil 1 with full synthetic Lucas Oil Stabilizer, boost seems to build faster when I make the switch, kinda nice.

+1 on fluctuating oil pressure gauge (stupid stock gauges just for show)

Not necessarily a leak. If he has a high mileage vehicle, he is probably burning a lot of oil. Its completely normal fora high mileage vehicle to go through a quart of oil a week depending on how hard it was ran in its life, etc... That's why people rebuild engines.
