I have a 1995 Mirage. I replaced the alternator and now the idle is between 0-500 rpms after warm up. I can give the car gas and it will remain on but sometimes it will cut off. I went to the dealer and they say it's going to cost $92 to reset the idle. I have never owned a Mitsubishi but with Toyota I never came across an idle problem after replacing an alternator. Any suggestions? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/57.gif)

First off, Id suggest checking the tension of the belt. they probably put it on way to tight, second, if this job was only done yesterday, or the day before, give it another day or two to reset the ECU. (This is needed when the battery is disconnected for a long period.) And third, if the Idle really is the problem, you can do it yourself for free. There are adjustments on the Throttle body. Also, I dont know how the engine in the Mirage is set up in its bay, but if there were any parts that had to be removed to get to the alternator, check them. I mean for tightness and all. For example: if the air intake system has a leak or is not tightened down then the MAF will be giving you ECU a reading that it cant match the correct amount of fuel too, thus a wide range of running problems/ rpms.

Thankyou I am definitely going to give that a try. I replaced the alternator myself and I know I spent some time trying to put it back together. I was asking around and some other tech friends of mine were saying something about the throttle-body positioning. I also can hear the belt at acceleration which kinda tells me it maybe too tight, I can't really tell though. I may have to loosen the bolts that I tightened putting it back on. The alternator is in such a wierd place versus Toyota's of which I have alway's owned. I will take a look at it later today. Otherwise I am going to have to spend the money for them to fix it and I probably can do it myself. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/liebe011.gif)
