I want to check the level of transmission fluid in my 1994 Lancer. The operator's manual says "the transmission fluid filler port cap is equipped with a dipstick", but I am unsure where to locate this port cap. The diagram in the operator's manual seems to imply it is located next to, and at the height of, the battery, but this doesn't make sense in my car, so I assume the drawing is inaccurate.
Any help much appreciated.

Problem solved (it's amazing what a difference a night's sleep can make). Opened up the bonnet again and went straight to it. For the record, the dipstick is located at the front right edge of the transmission, about half way down its depth (not on top). The head of the dipstick (the part you pull on) is a globe shaped knob about 1 cm in diameter. When cleared of grime, it's white in colour.
