If your radio says "Off" it means you entered the wrong audio code three times. To get it to say code again do the following.

1:Turn the key to on or accessory.
2:Push the power button so that the radio display says off.
3:Let the car sit for 1 hour.
4:The radio display will go blank.
5:Turn the radio on and it will say code again.

Example if your code was 2651.
Use the first four radio station preset buttons to enter the code.

1: Push radio preset#1 two times.
2: Push radio preset#2 six times.
3: Push radio preset#3 five times
4: Push radio preset#4 one time.
5: Push either tape or cd button.

 THANK U , THANK U!!!!

I managed to get through step 4 with no problem, but its your step 5 I've been searching for!!!!

AFter I entered the code, either the manual or other forums would go that final step to tell me to push either tape or CD player!!!

Thank you, I sincerely been waiting for an answer before calling the dealership. At least that last step should be in the manual!!!! Oh well, thanks!

I had this problem... you need to put the key in the ignition and to the accessory position for 1 hour. Make sure that "off" is displaying when you put the key in for the 1 hour tho. After the 1 hour period the "off" should be gone and the display will be blank... now press the power button on the radio and it should now ask for the code again.

Make sure you have the right code before starting this procedure.

Also make sure your car is safe with the key in the ignition... wouldn't want the car to get stolen...

Good luck!

I didnt have to do that, i fiddled with it like 3 times and then it went to the off position, after that i left the cd player itself on for 10 min in the off way then turned it off and it set for 10 min then hit the power and it was back to code

Would you happen to have an 01 Eclipse??

Cuz i'm having the same problem on my 01 Eclipse..
I've been told if it's on Off you have to reset the stereo how instructed above about the leaving the car on for an hour..

I don't have my code though.. bought the car from some guy..

Would your happen to be the model # MR490088

Serial # 08045321C??

Thank you for these steps, I was about to buy a new radio. I am lucky enough that the previous owner wrote the code on the radio, so I didn't have to look far. I am waiting for it to say code now hopefully it works.

It works now but only half the preset buttons worked because something spilled inside the radio so i cleaned the circuit board and got just enough clean to enable me to enter the code. So now i have half a radio to hold me over until i buy a new one.
