It could be the faulty catalytic converter. It is expansive, but the warranty is 6 years I was told. I guess they are all redundant parts unless you need to pass the emission test .
Interestingly: I decided to replace the timing belt at around 60,000 Miles. The repair shop while doing the work found that the hydraulic tensioner of the belt has failed and I was lucky to bring the SUV to do the service today, otherwise the belt failure/slippage (that already jumped one notch) would damage the engine resulting in very costly repair. The shop had no issue finding the replacement belt, but the tensioner was not widely available.
I did not feel any difference or noise with the tensioner not functioning and overall surprised to realize it failed so early. May be it is a good idea to change the belt at the recommended intgerval. Perhaps my next SUV will have chain not the belt.
