If your fitting an engine that was available to that model then it should be relatively straight forward, however if your plannig on putting in something completly different i.e from a different maufacturer or engine family then it will get expensive and awkward. And of course you might also have problems of mating up gearboxes and driveshafts being unable to take the power, things in engine bay in wrong place....etc etc, just make sure you do your research before undertaking any work.

I have swapped a Chevy 350 into a Ford T-Bucket for school. It was a long process because it was over a 3 week class going 6 hours a day. At the same time, we got a chance to do different modifications to it. It wasn't hard, but you need the right tools. It would be almost impossible to take an engine out without a hoist of some sort.

I wouldn't even try the Evo swap into a 3G Eclipse, might be too much trouble and require too much money.

In case anyone wants to have a good idea as to what it's like to swap engines in a car, below is a link to a website for an Subaru RS that he swapped the 2.5 n/a engine with the JDM Turbo engine. This gives a good idea as to the work required to swap engines.

Enjoy

If you put in a Supra engine, might as well make the car rear-wheel drive.

Oh wait, you'd have to do that anyways.

Why? Just modify the trans, put holes in it, half-shafts, maybe a differential gear for the half-shafts, and viola!

Oh, wait, that'd be WAY too much money...

You could buy a Supra (MK III), rebuild the entire car for less than it would cost to put a Supra Engine in a 3G Eclipse.
