my spacewagon just stopped dead, tried all the obvious things, spark, petrol getting through, charged battery, checked distributor, cam belt turns the tappets, so running out of fault finding ideas. seems like the ECU circuit board is prone to problems so any idea on where it is & how to get to it would be most appreciated. regards Dave

Dave,

The ECU on top of the passenger side kick panel. You will need to look up at it, there are 2, 12mm (if I remember correctly) socket bolt's holding it.

When you take it out and it smells like fish or you see the capacitors leaking you will need to have the caps replaced.

John

Hi,

How old is your ECU ?

In my Lancer, after 13 years, the ECU burned, the problem was the end of life for a single capacitor !!!.

I have changed the ECU, and I'm trying to renew the old one.

If you have the reference of your ECU and if you need some components references, ask !

Best regards

My car was about 7 yrs from the manufacture date.
This morning, i try to look for the ECU, which it locate on top of the passenger side kick panel. And i saw 3 units there, a metal box (size 2.5" X 5" , it showing there ECU, but i not sure), and a Black color PVC/carbon fiber Box ( size 5" X 6"). and a Relay between them.
And the wire were cut before and looks like it have been modified to use the relay which locate between them.

Which is the ECU unit? The black pvc box or the metal box?

I have try to disassamber the PVC Box and it look good on the Capacitor. and with a very litter smell. Dono need to change the Capacitor or not?

For the metal box i did not open, looks like very hard to open the case, and i did not open. cos it has no smell at all.

Help

Dave

I am having a problem with my ECU and was wondering how easy it is to change. Any advice as to where it is and how to replace it would be great.

Cheers Brian

Try BBA reman in Gillingam, Kent. If yours is a new unit to them, I think they do it FOC or at a reduced rate. They have a website and ebay shop, so google them.
