Hi,

I bought a second hand (Jap import) in 2004, Odometer was at 97000 km.

Some mechanics say that this is usually replaced at around 80000 kms for this type of vehicle - which means it should have been changed long back and some say it requires a change every 100000 kms - which means I need to do this as it is now around a 120000 kms.
I have recd. quotes ranging from $750/- to $1200/- to replace the cam belt / seals / water pump.

The vehicle is serviced regularly and is in decent shape and rund well.

How can I tell if the CAM belt has ever been changed ?

Cheers

Glenn

Hello Glenn
I am in process of changing mine. the car stopped dead, when I took it apart it looked new, which was ok as I had it replced by garage 6 months ago. But the balance belt snapped & hit the cam belt. So word of advise get the smaller balance belt done as well! If you take off the plastic cam belt cover you will see the belt crank the engine to turn it & see more of it then you can see if its ragged or eaten or slack. When in doubt change it as it can wreck the car. As an after thought cant you ask the previous owner. Dave
