Hey everyone. I was in Autozone one day and saw this scanner called the Car Chip E/X. See the link below.

http://www.microdaq.com/davis/automotive/carchip-ex.php

I'm just curious if anyone has heard anything about these. I thought about getting one to play with to see how well it worked.

Thanks for any constructive input.

Mike

It could very well do all of that stuff.

I wouldn't count on monitoring all of those variables, unless you know that your car is equipt with those sensors.

the 3000GTs for instance measure air with a mass airflow sensor, a temp sensor, and a barometric pressure. No pressure sensor, thus no way to log it. (manifold pressure)

You ECU sees all that stuff, and can send it to the data port. that's what you read when using a scanner or a logger.

It actually sounds like a way for paranoid parents to watch there kids speed, or log stuff in an accident, or maybe for people trying to squeeze out the best possible fuel economy.

It looks like you put that on, and run the car, then take it out and plug it into the computer.

Not very useful for tuning, because it's not real time. It may help diagnose a problem with the car, but again, unless you can watch it in real time, not incredibly useful. Maybe I'm wrong, though, and you can hook it up to a laptop or something.

Also, does it work on OBI or OBD hybrid cars? I would doubt it because most are different.

OBDII cars should all be uniform, though...

maybe it works as advertised.

Anyone who would invest money into tuning a stock Lancer is crazy. Unless it was heavily modded, even then this isn't the device to do it with. Since, I don't have $10,000 just floating around that isn't going to happen.

I know what you mean about measuring something that there isn't a sensor for. It's not real time either. Basically, from what I understand this device basically just logs what your ECU is measuring. Hence, why it only costs $100 (if you buy it at Autozone).

No it doesn't work with Hybrids, they are on the "Exclusion List" http://www.microdaq.com/davis/application_...-exclusions.php

I was just wondering if anyone knew or heard if this thing actually worked as advertised.

Thanks for your insight.
