why ask about importinig cars in the eclipse section of this site? eclipses are built and sold strictly in the US... if you want to ask about exporting, that would make some sense...

Crazy thing is, Toyota badged a cavalier in Japan. http://www.mehran.co.jp/detail.jsp?caseNo=103476 They sold them from 1995-2000, I believe. Funny thing is, they were popular enough for Toyota to make a TRD version, but I think that was pronounced "TURD".

Ford has very popular cars outside the U.S. in both Canada and Australia. General Motors has Holden in Australia who still build muscle cars to this day.

Hi, I am an Aussie, funny how they do things down here.

Holden GM had an agreement to rebadge each others cars and still do some.

A corolla is a holden Nova, and the Holden Commodore did become for a few years the Toyota Lexcen (Lexcen was the guy who invented the winged keel on the 1984 winning Boat in Perth)

As far as Holden making Muscle cars, I drive a current model HSV (holden special vehicles) 4 door version of the new Pontiac GTO, which is imported from Down under. Even though the boot area had to be changed for US standards, so that you can only fit in a set of golf clubs now. (Big boot/trunk otherwise here)

They have taken the motor from the Corvette 6ltr LS2(always one model behind) and it produces 300kw, and about 13.3 down the quarter. Not too bad for a non turbo lol.

Cheers

Chris

Sounds like a personal problem!

When I attended school, one of my diesel teachers is from Australia. He told me all about the cars that they have down there. I would love either a Ford Falcon or a Holden Monauro. I think it's funny, though, when companies sell entire cars to another company and all they do is rebadge it. Prism = Corolla, etc.

most importing places that do it cheap just get a state license. that's not legal. you have to meet federal standards, not just hoodwink Betty at the local DMV into giving you a VIN and some plates...

I could have sworn people like vettes, and vipers all over the world, but usually other countries have less stringent import laws.

we try to get type R civics, and they take our vipers... good trade... wait. no.

With the internet and open trade policies in EU the car market is now open to the world. We import cars from all over the world and it is not a big deal. I live in a small country town in the lower Souith Island of NZ and we have Vetts, Vipers, Mustangs, Monaro's, Cameros, HSV's, etc, etc. Kiwis have a passion for the older muscle cars and numerous are brought over from the States to re-build here. The Jap import market is strong as is the Singapore and South African. BMW's are a dime a dozen. If you want a FTO, TT do some homework and make some calls. I'll bet within a week you find what you want and then its just the legals and $$ to get back to cheeseland.

Are they as expensive as here? I know that the cars I work on, the majority of them sold for well over $30K brand new.

I'm not talking new but second hand usually when they have to get the 5 yearly detailed inspection done which costs them as much as what the car is worth. Had a friend get a beamer (not sure on model) for approx $6kUS. Luxury thing not performance though. Looked good but not as high of quality as the German varitity
