Well, hopefully I can explain with this as few words as possible and have it still make sense.
The Infinity Sound System that comes stock on cars is rather complicated and is difficult to integrate aftermarket parts with. All of the audio channels (left/right, front rear) leave the head unit through a round plug (DIN cable) and go into the amplifier (located under one of the front seats, probably the passenger).
Why is this important?
Well, you can't just take out the head unit and replace it with an aftermarket one because I've never found a proper plug that goes from aftermarket deck to the amp through the DIN cable. They make an adapter called a "MITAH adapter" but it doesn't work because it goes from 4 RCA plugs to the DIN cable. Most aftermarket decks have 4 RCA plugs in the back: 2 for powering rear speakers and 2 for the subwoofer. But, there is no connection (via RCA) for the front speakers.
So, to make a long story short. The only way you can hook up an aftermarket deck to a car that has in Infinity sound System, is to take out the amp and run wires from the amp connector to the stereo.

I think the Infinity system on the Eclipse is WAY different. I know on my Dad's Intrepid, my mom's Stratus, my friend's Ralliart, etc, they all can accept PAC audio adapters and you are able to control the fader, etc. On the Ralliart, the RCA's plugged into the Front and the Rear, respectively, of the 3 preouts on the head unit. The last one he used to hook up a subwoofer. It sounds pretty good, too.

I am trying to figure out what these circled wires are for. This is on the Galant '03 Infinity Head unit... anyone who knows or has tinkered with these please let me know. (IMG:http://img98.imageshack.us/img98/9973/rearofunit8vo.jpg) It says FM above it, are they both antennas??? Thanks.

I'm putzing around (and failing miserably) to get my aftermarket installed. The circled inputs you show - I know the fat one is FM antenna. Haven't found a place for the skinny one yet. Does anyone have a 'walkthrough' to bypass or run wires from the amp under the passenger seat? I can probably figure it out through trial and error, but would rather do it quickly. Also - the stock infinity system only has 5 wires going to its harness. Red and yellow are for Ignition and Memory, but what are the other 3? According to my mistubishi adapter harness, the other wires are for Illumination, Dimmer + and the 3rd wire runs to a blank terminal (no connection to anything). ***EDIT: I found something called the "METRA 70-7003". Apparently this the answer to our prayers. No splicing needed, use your factory amp. $26.68 shipped. http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/pshowdetl.c...tnumber=265-846 Wish I would have known about this before I bought the worthless MITAH and factory adapter ~$40. Oh well - hope this helps someone who hasn't bought anything yet.***

If the Galant Infinity system and the Eclipse are the same, there is a component that is sold where you plug the round end into the cable that runs to the amp and the 4 RCA's into two sets of preouts. You would need either a 2 pre-out set-up (fronts, and rear/subwoofer switching) or a 3 pre-out (fronts, rears, and subwoofer). The switching pre-out lets you switch between sub and rears when the unit is powered down, therefore negating the need for 3 preouts. With that, you really can't add a subwoofer unless you splice into the rear speakers or use 2 Y adapters off each of the channels of the rear preouts and then use the amp's built-in crossover to get only bass to the subwoofer. This is what you need...it has 2 sets of preouts and the round DIN plug.

I'm no expert, but if you take a look at this link: http://carstereohelp.net/wireharness_Mitsubishi3.htmyou will see that it could be a "main and sub-antenna socket" as it's shown in drawing. Good luck!

I already posted what you needed. I will copy and past it again: If the Galant Infinity system and the Eclipse are the same, there is a component that is sold where you plug the round end into the cable that runs to the amp and the 4 RCA's into two sets of preouts. You would need either a 2 pre-out set-up (fronts, and rear/subwoofer switching) or a 3 pre-out (fronts, rears, and subwoofer). With that, you really can't add a subwoofer unless you splice into the rear speakers or use 2 Y adapters off each of the channels of the rear preouts and then use the amp's built-in crossover to get only bass to the subwoofer. This is what you need to install your stereo and amp, but buy a head unit with 3 preouts.
