i got a 97 mitsubishi eclipse gst. i bought it with a blown turbo so i put a stock evolution turbo. besides that the car is completely stock except for high performance spark plugs. when i hit 5g rpm my car starts to pop and it doesnt move any faster..like a fuel cut or something. it feels like i have an overboost problem but so many people tell me different things. can anyone help me out?!?!?!

if it has a wastegate interal(sp? to early) to the turbo, then did you swap over your old wastegate? What PSI is the wastegate set at?

What PSI are you running. you really should get a boost gauge. you can get a cheap autometer that will give you some clue, for like 25 bucks or so. not the greatest, but better than guessing.

when you say evolution turbo, are you referring to lancer evolution? if so, then you just explained your own problem. that is too big of a turbo to add to a stock eclipse. you are detonating the **** out of your engine in higher boost. you are also probably hitting fuel cut because your MAS will cut fuel at certain Hz of airflow (karmann reading). it's not even an issue of psi it's simple cfm.. you could run that turbo at very low psi on your fuel system and still hit fuel cut/detonation because you are flowing too much volume of air for that car.

I have a same problem with mine too. I own a 97 Eclipse GS-T too, though the turbo has never been replaced, It bumbs along the road....when accelerating. 0-5 PSI its fine but more then that and it doesnt move any faster. (Its embarasing when you want to pass someone on a 2 lane highway & can't because it doesnt accelerate.) I am replaceing a turbo, which I think puts just about 230HP (Dont know how many PSI.) Should I look into anything else other then the turbo.

if your doing that on the stock turbo at 5 psi something else is wrong.

red97gst is right though. that turbo is flowing way to much air, even at the same psi.

but teamimportracing, you need to find out what is causing your problem at 5 psi. a stock turbo on a stock car should handle that.

check/change the plugs, check/change the wires, make sure you have enough fuel (check a/f ratio), check/change the fuel filter, and do a compression test. that's all I can think of right now.
