If you do a lot of body modifications won’t this mess up your warranty at all? Reason I ask is because I have a new 06 GS and I plan on doing upgrades and some body work but id like to keep my warranty if at all possible or find a way to where it would be covered under it.

"anything that you do to the engine in anyway voids the warranty" from the mouth of the sales rep where i bought the car, if u do mods, keep all your stock parts, so that is somethin does go wrong u can put the stock stuff back on and go to the dealer and they will never know, of course this can only be done for simple things like and intake and things like that,

if the dealer can prove that the part in question caused a problem, then yes, they can void your warranty.

for example, you put a stage 3 clutch in. the harsh engagement of the clutch destroys your stock differential. i can guarantee that you will not get the differential replaced under warranty because the dealer can say that the aftermarket clutch caused the problem.

they can say that, but they can't make it stand. there was a law/act passed that covered warranty information when dealing with upgrading parts. it basically said that a dealer cannot void a warranty unless they can prove that it caused a problem.

lets say that you lower your car. then a month later, the engine blows. the dealer can't void your warranty because he can't prove that lowering the car caused the engine to blow.

the main reason i was asking is i was looking at the labo doors and wanted to check on that cause since i got my car from the dealer i got the warranty and dont want to mess that up. i have a good friend that can do the work since he works on cars himself but that was my main worry. so basically your saying if i do a body mod to the appearance to the car and something internal happens (where it couldnt have been cause by the mod) the warranty would still hold up and i could bring it in, correct?

please call your dealer first that is the best decision you can make. if your dealer says it will call another one and get a second opinion

As far as the lambo doors go you will void your B2B warranty as far as your doors are concerned but they cannot void anything else. I am a salesmanfor mitsu and i went back and asked my service manager and thats what he told me, as far as any other body mods If you put a front body kit on and it has a smaller opening for air to get to the radiator that could cause some warranty issues. As soon as you break through the factory paint you also void your entire 7 year unlimited mile perforation warranty

what if the modifications you want done you take to an actual mitsubishi dealer & have their service deparment install everything for you?.. (would they even do that?)... i know this is probably an unusual comparison, but for instance with computers.. if you buy something from say bestbuy and you want to upgrade.. as long as you have them do it for you it doesn't affect your warrenty.

It depends on the modification you want them to do. If you bring in a cold air intake (not a short ram), they can argue that it will void the warranty on your engine because by installing the CAI you increase the chance of water entering the engine. The voiding of the warranty doesn't happen because you or another (non-Mitsubishi) shop installed the part. By law, you have the right to have service work performed by any certified shop.

As far as warranties go in general, parts installed on your car do not have to be Mitsubishi Parts, but they have to meet or exceed the specifications of the OEM part.

Now, to answer the original question of this post. If breaking the factory paint voids the warranty of the paint/body/etc, then installing Lambo doors should not void your warranty because installing the hinges will probably require removing the factory hinges and shouldn't break the paint. Just my opinion.

i haven't seen one mitsu dealership that will do that. most will not install aftermarket parts unless they come from the factory(like the aero body kit that comes on the 4G)

yeah almost any car dealer will not install something unless they sell the part you are wanting and even then they will most likely want you to buy their part

"Excuse me sir, my engine is smoking and making odd noises, I believe this is covered in the warranty..."

Dealership: "hrmmm, I see that you have neon lights installed on your car..."

"Um, yeah....so..?"

Dealership: "I'm sorry sir, we just can't fix your car...how do we know your neon lights didn't cause this?"

"I don't see how thats really possible...."

Dealership: "why sure, if your non-factory neon lights malfunctioned and sent 1.21 gigawatts of electricity bursts into the car it may have caused this problem.."

"Wha..what!?"

Dealership: "NEXT!"

At my dealer, we install factory Dinan parts on our BMWs that are factory warranteed. Since Dinan is a BMW tuner, like Ralliart is to Mitsubishi, they have no problem covering it.

OK Check this out all. I have a friend in service at Mitsu and they are installing a Rotora Spoiler for me and that breaks the paint. My Warrenty is fine they have told me. It better be I saw it at the LA Auto Show. Anyway I have neon light and Ingen Intake and Magnaglow muffler. I called Mitsu and they said I am ok warrenty wise. However they were concerned about the Intake. I called Ingen and they assured me that by some law I am protected. They did say to watch out for deep water.
