Hi,
I have a 1999 Carisma 1.8GLX GDI that I have had for 6 years now. The past 6 months or so, I have noticed that the engine surges when I am at cruising speed. More correctly, the car actually decelerates ever so slighly WITHOUT me decreasing any pressure on the accelerator, and then slighly accelerates back to the original speed. This behavoir is noticebale in any gear at any revs, but seems more easily recognisable when you are cruising.
Thinking it may be a blocked fuel line, I had an extensive service done at a local garage, and after 1200 Euro was told it might be an electronic component attached to the exhaust manifold that measures the engine emmisions, which in turn adjusts the fuel flow into the injectors. The explanation was that if this part was faulty, the engines computer would be fooled into thinking the fuel mixture was too rich, and hence the slight "deceleration" I was experiencing. Everything else on the car checked out fine.
The part was changed, but I occasionally still get the same problem. I'm no mechanic, so can anyone offer any advise or suggestions?
Thanks, Golden
