I have recently purchased a 2001 Spacestar 1.8 GDI. The dealer advises that the engine oil is specially formulated by Castrol, and is available only from them at £15 a litre. Can anyone advise on this matter? Do I really need to pay so much for my oil?

Sounds very odd that the mechanic would specify this. Any oil which meets the minimal specification will do which is about any of the modernb stuff. I would reference the owners manual which states a API-GF approved GF-1 SAE 5W30 or 10W-30 for my 3.5l GDI.

Ive just had a similar issue with my GDI. Apparently the GDI and DDI engine need a high quality engine oil otherwise the throottle body sludges up!! Having just spent £180.00 on having this item cleaned I advise using the correct oil but I have found the right stuff on the internet for a cheaper price. Just put GDI oil in the search engine and it should give you some sites. Hope this helps. Rob
