Well if we meant world wide then.....
1978 - 1983 chassis code A12
1984 - 1988 C1
1988 - 1992 C5
1992 - 1996 CA
1996 - 2003 CJ
2004 - On CZ

And as far as i know mirage production began with the CA chassis, and no mirage is produced now,so their was only 2 generations of mirage....i think :)

If your talking about your motor, I believe the motor in the '98 DE is a 4G generation. Sorry if that's not what your talking about.

Sorry mate, but you are WAY WAY WAY wrong..97+ is 5G

4g is to 96..

If it's a 1.5 L motor it's 4g15..and if it's 1.8 it's a 4g93

and if he wants an evo it's 4g63 T

So if his car is a '98 1.5L, wouldn't it be a 5g15 from what your saying? not a 4g15? but i have a 98 mirage LS (1.8L) and its a 4g93.

The g on the engine code doesnt represent generation.it means gasoline, and the 4 is the number of cylinders,e.g 4g63.....4 cylinder gasoline....mitsu dont make 5 cylinder engines but only 3,4 and 6,so ALL engine codes(except some diesels from reanault) will be 3gXX,4gXX.....but none of the 6's because they have aluminum heads so their named 6aXX.........are you now more confused then when you started reading?lol

Yeah the engine is what i was talking about because i want to swap it out for a bigger engine as my next project, and i was told that 5th gen. mirages cant have a 4g63 (eclipse) engine put in it-literaly impossible. Just trying to figure out what other engine i can put in it thats all.

It is not impossible to put a 4G63 motor into a 1998 Mitsubishi Mirage.

Well isnt the motor rotated 180 degrees making in basicaly impossible? because i can get a turbo 4g63 engine for 600 with very few miles and i wanted to put that in but i was told its literaly impossible because of the roatation.

Do you people not know anything?!

I hate to come off as a ****, but you people are too lazy to do research..

Look, a 4g63t motor comes out of a evo..

A EVO before 8 was made out of the Mirage image..

Which is basically why the Mirage is converted to the EVO so many times..

Thank you! I'll most likely go with a 4g63 just because it requires less work than the 4g63T from an Eclipse OR the Evo.

4g63t Also comes out of an EVO...

Unless the people that built the evo put the wrong type of motor in my brothers car..then i'll be proved wrong.

Yah your right, and it also comes out of the GSX so you both are right. But the throttle body and the belts have to be on the same side as the original engine correct? and dont call me stupid and say i havent done research because i have and found plenty of info just needed to know the specifics.
