QUOTE(utiheadbanger @ Feb 25 2006, 10:25 AM) Nice ride. Never been a HUGE fan of Yamaha...but it's nice nonetheless. not a fan of yamaha? thats crazy talk! see that other bike in the photo? its an 04 harley sporster. my buddy bought it brand new, and we went cross country on the two worst bikes ever made for cross country riding. BUT... thats not the point. we rode twice across this great land of ours, but the second time, let me tell you what happened. (im gonna give the cliff notes version, 'cause the regular version would be HUGE). coming back from vegas, in the middle of nebraska. Harley breaks down. It sounds mechanical. harley (despite being maintained EXACTLY to harley specs) has siezed a cam. Harley needs a new engine, because the crankcase is ruined. The reason for this is unknown, as the bike had already been ridden for 250 miles that day, had new, clean harley oil in it, and had 8000 miles total on it. it will take harley at least 2 weeks, but they wont pay for our stay for 2 weeks in nebraska, nor will they tow it home for us. He's out 800 bucks for shipping his bike (his choice). takes it to his dealer. takes them 55 days to replace the engine. picks it up, drives it to work, and promptly gets covered in oil from his waist down. his dealer picks it up again, takes 7 more days to repair, and he picks it up again. This time, he gets it home and it has a rod knock. Takes it back a third time. takes one more day, he picks it up, but now its november and too damn cold to ride. He has no confidence in the bike, company, or any of the personnel we've dealt with, and is also out a grand total of 1200 bucks that harley would not reimburse on a fully warrantied bike. And it took over 2 months to repair. so suffice to say, Im sticking with yamaha.

Here's my Honda VT1100C Shadow. It's heavy with some good torque, but not the fastest bike around.
The genious I bought it from dropped and smashed the turn signal light, and taped it back together. This is an old picture and it's been properly replaced since then.
I was never a fan of the other Japanese cruisers:
Kawasaki and Yamaha cruisers don't have dip sticks, they have oil view ports, so you have hold the bike level while kneeling down to see if you have oil in the crankcase.
To change the plugs on the Kawasaki you have to remove the gas tank (dumbest thing I've heard of).
I'd like a crotch rocket some day, but I like my bike because hitting all the states (except Hawaii and Alaska) is a little bit easier to do.
I'm not going to go into Harley's. Spending more for a motorcycle that costs more than a car just doesn't make sense.
