Yokohama, Dunlop, or Michelin make really nice performance tires, and you can never go wrong with Nitto.

there is so much tires out there. It really comes down too the one you like and how much you want to spend on tires.

I may like one kind of tire but you may not like the one that i do.

215 - Section Width (in millimeters)
40 - Sidewall aspect ratio (the sidewall height is 40% of the section width)
17 - Rim (diameter in inches)

The numbers do not relate to performance. Your vehicle has a stock tire and rim size. When you change the rim size you need to use a tire that matches (not exactly, but close) original tire diameter.

Basically, if your factory tire was 215/40/17, that means that your tire diameter is about 24 inches (or 603.8 millimeters).

215(.4) = 86 mm = 3.39 in = sidewall height (rim to tread)
tire diameter = 3.36(2) + 17 = 23.77 in

You can get a wider tire than stock, but you need to maintain the tire diameter. If you don't maintain the original tire diameter your speedometer will be off.

Also, if these rims and tires are for a 93 Eclipse GS, then you should be using 215/45/17 tires, not 215/40/17 tires.

Hope that helps.

yes that helps a lot so all i need to do is just keep the 215/45/and whatever stock rim size is and just change that rim size and leave the 215/45 how it was. and when i said 215/40/17 i was just giving an example but thanks alot

Everything on there is good, but you CAN use 215/40R17 if you want, your speedometer might be off by 1MPH or so...
