Your ideling, stalling fuel problems sound suspiciously like a recent problem that I had.

Have you checked the valve timing. I recently replaced the timing belt in my '93 RVR (4g63 motor) and got exhaust cam retarded by 1 tooth. It would not idel properly and stalled. It also had bad pinging.

It was the only thing that I had changed and so talked to a fuel specialist. He had me start the engine and immediately stated the valve timing was wrong.

When I FIRST changed the timing belt I found that the inlet cam was retaded one tooth so after replaceing the belt I found aa improvment in bottom end power.

On checking the timing (remove 2 or 3 8mm bolts on top plastic cover) the exhaust was now retarted by 1 tooth. Corrected this and it all ran smoothly.

When piston 1 (timing belt end) is at top dead centre the cam timing wheel marks should line up with the head/rocker cover joint. Should be able to put a ruler through these marks.

This is probably too late but might help some one else.

Hi

I have just replaced a timing belt on a 93 RVR 4g63 engine and it is doing a similar thing to yours.

Having changed the timing belt, aligning the marks as you have described, I replaced everything. The engine started without difficulty however after a while it cut out and since then it is hunting on idle and cutting out.

It is pinking when driven. I took the cover off and checked as you describe and the alignment on the two cams are out by one cog. From what you have said, have you found way of adjusting this without having to strip it down again?

An early reply would be great if possible. Hi to Oz from the cold UK!!

Regards

Rick

Pal,

No unfortunately I had to support the engine, remove the engine mount, belts, pulley and polymer timing belt covers before backing the timing belt tension off and correcting the timing. No fun. especially trying to get the power steering/alternator belt pully bolts back in!!!!! Be prepared to curse.

Cold old UK? I think you mean how is cold old tas as your going into nice warm English summer. Enjoy.

By the by, anyone have part numbers for 93 RVR Sports gear front shock absorber cartriges, tail shaft uni joints and centre bearing or which models of mitsubishi these parts are also on? Eg 4G63 motor is in Gallant, Tie rod ends are in Nimbus, etc. RVR is a gray import in Australia and not supported by Mitsubishi Australia. Most parts (except front wheel bearings) are also common to other Mitsubishi models.

Hi there

I have also just bought a RVR 1997 with Gdi engine, and am having the same problems with stalling. I took it to a "specialist who used his computer and said that the speed sensor was faulty, changed that and cleaned out the throttle housing and all was fixed for about 1000Km and noe I am sitting in Mozambique and the car hardly runs.
This car is also an import from Japan, so noone knows to much about it.

Does anyone know where i can get a manual.
Mine has the triptronic type transmission.

Thanks

Steve F

I have just got a 1994 Mitsubishi RVR. I understand that Zupps are starting to stock and/or obtaining parts for these in Australia.
Also try this site, http://www.twingles.com/manualcd/dsmgift/, and download the DSM TECH manual for the 1g's!. Its for a Talon but most of it is the same.
