Can't really help you right away - I haven't looked at the mechanism. But your post will serve as a warning to other to treat the switch gingerly ;)

If your car is still under warranty the dealership should be able to get it fixed with no probs.

My rear seat lift handle also broke one day. In a pinch, I used a pair of pliers to reach in and grab the ferrule at the end of the cable. I pulled the cable straight up and the mechanism was released. (This is what the latch will do when it is working normally.) Later on, I removed the entire plastic latch assembly and was able to glue the broken piece back on using Gorilla glue and letting it set and harden overnight. It has been working fine since. These handles do require caution during usage, since they have a history of breaking under the stress.

I had the same thing happen. I took it to the dealership and they can temporary pop it back up for you. It's broken and if it's not under warranty it costs a little over $200 to fix it. As long as you don't release and put seat back down it will remain fine it you don't want to pay to have it fixed. You can just never put the seat down again b/c it will have to be popped up.

imo shouldn't they (the dealership) have fixed it for free as a warranty issue?
