I just got my new Mitsubishi Outlander 2006 last week. So far I really love it. I had an old Mitsubishi Tredia L in 1985 in California which I also loved. Since then, I moved to Mexico and Mitsubishi just got here about three years ago.

I evaluated several small SUVs and I was thinking about a Ford Escape until I saw the Outlander. It had it all over the Escape in comfort and features and it was even cheaper.

The only question I have so far deals with gasoline. The dealer recommends premium even though the manual doesn't require it. Can anybody with an Outlander comment on this? I hate to spend the extra money for premium if it isn't really necessary.

I've never noticed the difference, to be honest. I run on LPG most of the time, so the benefits in engine wear and consumption are unlikely to be noticeable. Performance-wise, the Outie was never the sharpest off the grid  !!

Congratulations on your new Outlander. I have had mine for two years and it has brought me across the US and back, as well as through eastern Canada. You should have a lot of fun with yours. I use regular gas with mine and average 25 mpg during the warmer months. My engine runs fine with regular, no pinging or dieseling. (Maybe the dealer recommended premium because his brother-inlaw owns the nearby gas sation?). Is regular octane in Mexico rated the same as it is in the US?

Liquid Petroleum Gas - sometimes called Autogas. It's half the price of regular gasoline/petrol here in the UK, and Mitsubishi do a factory conversion. It's also kinder to the engine, and a little 'greener', but mainly it's the money saving that convinced me, as I do more than 30,000 miles a year!

Hi I own a 2004 Outlander and I also currently live in Mexico. I also use Premium gas the other type of gas, Regular in mexico is called Magna it is 87 octane and i belive Premium is 89 octane so not as good as in the US as premium is usually 92 octane.. So I would recomend Premium, I have not used Magna in my outie so i wouldnt know if there is a difference...

Wow its cool that there is other people from mexico in these forums..

I have an 04 AWD and run 87 octane. The only time you would NEED higher than that is if you have a turbo version or if there is a modification done to the fuel map, such as with a piggyback that will lean out the mixture. I ran 87 and 91 in my car to do a comparison on performance and MPG and do yourself a favor and buy the 87. The only thing 91 or 92 octane will do is cost you $.20 more per gallon if you are stock. Mitsubishi reccomends regular unleaded as well.

Hi. I have a 2003 Outlander, bought in Panama, but have been in trouble finding the VIN Number (Vehicle Identification Number). Can anyone tell me where to look for it on the car? I need it to see if I can get a new cylinder head, so if anyone knows of a good place to get one online, will be appreciated.

THANKS A LOT,

aldohing

YOUR VIN # should be inside the door just bellow the latch and should start with a J.. meaning it was built in Japan.

I have a 2004 with 108000 kms which lived on regular gas for the past 32 months and it runs fine. My manual states that I should use high octane when I tow but I never do it runs fine.
