I have a 92 Eclipse with the 1.8L I just purchased and the auto tranny was recently replaced by previous owner. It will shift from park to reverse to neutral to drive (vice, versa), however when in Drive gear, it will not start out in 1st gear and go to 2nd. When I manually shift from D to L or 2, it still will not downshift.

The fluid level and color are normal. Where should I start to diagnose?

Thanks,

Jeff

it sounds like your Transmission might be a goner. if it woundn't start in park or neutral. and the gears woundn't shift in to the next gear. i would bet its the transmission it self

It starts in park and neutral. I will try to adjust the shift cable.

sounds like limp mode. could have been caused by the tach shitting the bed.

i am not too familiar with the 1 gens but limp mode is caused by something going bad or not functioning properly. do you have a check engine light?

One last statement regarding the tranny. I had the codes pulled out of the TCU today and they are:

41 shift control solenoid A open
45 pressure control solenoid open
47 damper clutch control solenoid open
85 pressure control solenoid

No engine codes; all tranny codes. Does this shed any light on the issue? Thanks for the previous reply.

New information from previous owner indicated that the replacement tranny came out of a 2.0L Eclipse. Is this a problem?

with all those codes, it's trans shop worthy. unless the wiring is different to the 2.0l trans and not hooked up right.

Inspected the electrical wiring. Found a broken lead located near the tranny dip stick. Four wires: white, red, green, and yellow connected to a "switch" a few inches from the dip stick. The white wire was broken and not connected. What is this "switch" called and how many dollars to replace?

Thanks,

jeff
