Can anyone give me a little information on OverDrive and the 4G eclipse? I'm guessing it has it... but can it be turned off? and if it can't why in gods name can't it?

I believe the transmission has sportronic, right? Well, you can't turn overdrive off, but why would you? It saves gas, and when you need to pass and mash on it, it drops a gear to get the higher RPMS. If you go and select your gears "manually" you can keep it in direct drive.

there's no reason to turn off ANY gear. why not turn off "underdrive" or "direct drive"?

people have got to stop using the word overdrive, and just start using gears as numbers. Many, many trannies these days have 2 overdriven gears.. The fact that they are overdriven really has no bearing on anything.
just leave the car in "drive" and let the PCM decide what gear to be in. If you step on the gas, it will downshift as needed.

thought the point of o/d is not having to down shift, you're already in the power ban. o/d just tames down the power for gas and daily driving.

No, the PCM controls it and when it sees a sudden opening of the throttle it drops the car down a gear.

with overdrive on ur car will run 1-4 gears...overdrive taken off is gears 1-3...it is meant to let the engine rev higher and let 4 cyl motors get up really steep hills

I love how you have such short answers and are so nice about correcting other people who think they know what they are talking about.
