Hi all...

I'm from Malaysia.. and planning on getting an AIRTREK 2.0 Turbo. Since they have stop production, i can only get used ones.

I dont have much knowledge on checking if the 'used' car is in GOOD condition. The previous owner has put in a 'Turbo Timer'. The first time I test drove, while I was reversing the car.. the engine DIED. The reason I was given.. was 'because the 'THROTTLE' was dirty.. and needs some cleaning.

Anyway, I've been a big fan of the Airtrek.. Here in Msia, the 'used' price for an airtrek is very hefty.. and I fear problems that comes with an used car.. furthermore a 2.0 turbo!

Any thoughts? Need some advice on the following:

1. Is the cost of maintaining an Airtrek high? For eg. Chances of breaking down
2. What are the chances of the 'turbo' giving problem?
3. How can i check if the 'used' Airtrek is in good condition, before purchasing it.. what are the 'things' which I can/should look out for?

Appreciate your advise..

chukuleks,

i bought a 2nd hand airtrek turbo myself and i had the same thoughts as you initially. I'm no mechanic so i had no clue what to look for at the time so i did the next best thing a mechanic who knows mitsu's!

TBH i would have reservations if the car died on you while you reversed unless it was the turbo timer which shut the engine down, i've never encountered that problem and my car is now 3 years old (i bought it 1 year ago).

Generally speaking any mitsubishi is a pretty decent car so nothing major should be wrong with it provided it's been looked after, regular services and oil changes etc.

the cost of servicing is mainly in the better quality oils i use cause it's a performance car after all same for brake pads.

hope this helps if you're still interested
